The Italian Store: Unique Ingredients and Delectable Flavors

If you’re looking for a one-stop destination in Arlington for both prepared Italian food and all of the ingredients you’ll need to cook at home, locals will happily point you in the direction of The Italian Store.

Family-owned and operated by the Tramonte clan for over three decades, The Italian Store sources its products both from Italy and from traditional butchers and manufacturers in New York. Regulars claim that they serve up the best New York style pizza in the state, with a crisp, savory crust perfectly accented by a house-made sauce and a selection of traditional toppings. Go for the Suprema, topped with fresh tomatoes, pepperoni, onions, black olives, and Italian sausage. The sandwiches are also exceptional, made Philadelphia style on a soft roll. The Capri, a sandwich made with prosciutto blended with Genoa salami, provolone cheese, and capacola ham, has won a large fan base.

Enjoy Artisanal Coffee at Caffe Aficionado

When you order a latte at Caffe Aficionado, don't be surprised if you see a panda bear—complete with little paws—staring back up at you from your cup. The baristas at Caffe Aficionado are so skilled that a simple heart or autumn leaf often won't do; they like to create something even more unique out of your foam. If you can bring yourself to take that first sip, you'll realize that the latte itself is spectacular too.

Perhaps that's because baristas use a special Nordic approach to brewing their beans that really brings out the flavors in a unique way. Enjoy your coffee straight, brewed in a pot, or a pour-over instead. You can also opt for an Americano, mocha, chai tea latte, or any of the above in iced form. Pair your chosen java drink with a waffle or almond croissant, a sandwich with prosciutto, or any of the assorted pastries in the display case.

Ravi Kabob House: Delightful Kabobs in Northern Virginia

This popular Arlington restaurant serves kabobs and other Mediterranean fare that are full of flavor. Regulars rave about the dishes on Ravi Kabob House’s menu, as well as the tender meats it is known for.

The ambiance here is functional, and the food is the primary draw. Sample some of the delightfully slow-cooked, charcoal-grilled lamb and beef. The seekh kabob, made from minced beef that’s been spiced, formed around a skewer, and then grilled is quite well-regarded. Vegetable sides also earn praise from regular diners, with options like spinach and roasted chickpeas available to complement your main course.

Be aware before you go, Ravi Kabob House is a cash-only business. Fear not, however, there is an ATM just across the street.

Pedro & Vinny’s Burritos: Shack Attack

Pedro & Vinny’s Burritos has been described by Yelp diners as “a shack in the CVS parking lot” that produces enormous, fresh burritos.

They’re menu is simple enough; they make burritos and only burritos. There are three basic components to the burritos here including fillings, beans, and cheeses. All their beans are vegan allowing their customers to craft a vegetarian burrito if they so choose. Fillings include chicken, steak, pork, and vegetarian. Next, select your beans such as spiced refried pinto beans, black beans, or a combination of the two. Lastly, select your cheese which is either a mix of cheddar and monterey jack or mozzarella. Additions such as sour cream, guacamole, and flavored tortillas are available for a little extra money. There is also a wide variety of sauces and salsas you can try before you add them to your burrito.

With a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars across an average of 232 Yelp! reviews, this may just be one shack you’ll want to give a try.

Super Pollo: Flavorful Chicken in Arlington

Super Pollo is a small chain of restaurants with two Arlington locations that deliver the unique style of Peruvian rotisserie chicken to its customers.

Peruvian style chicken is a spicy, savory delight cooked very patiently over open flames on a rotisserie grill. The steady heat allows the bird to cook fully without drying out while giving the skin a crispy texture that adds to the flavor. It is not unusual for two people to eat their fill at Super Pollo for under ten dollars and still have leftovers to take home. The chicken is the star of the show here, available in whole, half, and quarter portions, but Super Pollo also has a number of great sides, including crispy fried yucca, chickpeas, and Spanish rice.
